Panelists:
Carol Lin (CA), Senior Advisor to the CEO of Los Angeles County (Former)
Carol Lin’s vast experience as an award-winning journalist for ABC News and CNN prepared her well for a public service career serving as Senior Advisor to three top level Los Angeles County executives including the Chief Executive Officer and the elected Sheriff as Los County prioritized its response to justice reform, police shootings, homelessness, and growing economic disparity. After the County's Board of Supervisors declared a public health emergency in March 2020, Carol Lin was appointed Deputy Director for the Los Angeles County’s COVID-19 Emergency Joint Public Information Center which was responsible for coordinating the rapid response-public information about the pandemic to the media and the county’s 10 million residents.
Brother Robert Bathe (NY), Interfaith Chaplain and Bereavement Coordinator, Bellevue Health & Hospital Center
Brother Robert belongs to a religious Order in the Roman Catholic Church known as Carmelites. He has been a friar for 24 years and currently serves as an interfaith Chaplain at Bellevue Heath and Hospital Center, which is one of the oldest hospitals in NYC. At Bellevue he is the Bereavement coordinator, and is assigned to ER units, Psych units, and Cardiac units, along with being actively involved in educating new Chaplains for the future.
Nancy Oberst (NE), Senior Consultant, Gallup
Nancy Oberst has been a Senior Consultant at Gallup for over 10 years as a Facilitator and Coach of the Strengths Coaching Programs for Institutions and Individuals. In her role she ensures that coaches know how to lead conversations, focused on helping people learn to lead people to live their best lives, at work and everywhere else through harnessing the value of their CliftonStrengths.
Steve Edwards (MO), President & CEO, CoxHealth
Steve Edwards is the President and CEO of CoxHealth, a private not-for-profit healthcare system operating 6 hospitals, over 85 clinics, a provider based insurance company and other enterprises employing over 12,500 people and generating $1.8 B in annual revenue. CoxHealth has been recognized for distinguished quality, as a best hospital by US News and World Report, and a best place to work by SBJ, Modern Healthcare and Forbes magazine.
Why Stability?
While effective leaders seem to know instinctively the importance and value of stability for creating change, Gallup learned through asking 10,000 followers that STABILITY is one of four basic needs that followers say the most key influential leaders contribute to their lives.
Words cited like security, strength, support, and peace are challenging to uphold as the sands of time, of change, sink beneath our leadership feet.
How do we, as leaders, strengthen stability in the workplace and in our communities when change is ever-present and behaviors and habits are still shifting and settling into a post-pandemic environment? What's the right balance leaders must strike to honor stability and the needs of followers when transformation is critical to progress?
About Discussions That Matter
Discussions That Matter, an ongoing virtual series by National Leadership Network, provides an opportunity for graduates of Community Leadership Programs to engage with their peers from across the nation. A panel of seasoned professionals in the private, nonprofit, and government sectors introduce and discuss relevant issues impacting our country. Along with expert panels, alumni are placed in small groups to engage in meaningful discussions with fellow leaders from across the nation.
